Tartu College facilitates a rich educational and cultural programming all year around. The program is delivered together with VEMU/Estonian Museum Canada focusing on four pillars: history, culture, language, arts & science. All VEMU programs offered in English are available to Tartu College student residents.
Tartu College’s key mandate is to promote, preserve and increase the knowledge of the Estonian experience in Canada. Tartu College with the Chair of Estonian Studies Foundation supports the Estonian language courses at University of Toronto Department of Slavic Languages and Literature.
We are home to the Academy for Lifelong Learning Toronto program that facilitates peer-led study and dialogue. Together with the Academy of Lifelong Learning Toronto student bursaries are offered to Tartu College student residents.
VEMU
Estonian Museum Canada/VEMU is a contemporary memory institution welcoming all visitors to be inspired by Estonian culture, history and traditions. Its inclusive programming and innovative exhibitions encourage cross-cultural understanding and dialogue.
VEMU delivers cultural and educational programs: exhibits, lectures, conferences, concerts, workshops (50-70 per year) and services (archives and library collections, databases). VEMU collections are the largest Estonian themed collections outside of Estonia and the main source of Canadian Estonian history. We engage volunteers in archival and library work and programming. Our rich and diverse programs engage and serve different age and national groups. VEMU's biggest event is Estonian Music Week (festivals in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2023 plus concert series) As a member of the Bloor St Culture Corridor we are partnering actively with our neighbours, but we collaborate also with other organizations and individuals. For the local Estonian community we are the main cultural hub in Ontario.
Keep an eye on VEMU programming and participate here.
